History of MGS Equine Investments

Mike and Greg Smith began showing together in 1974 with their horses being stabled at Vince Corvi's Marburg property in Queensland. By 1978, Greg and Mike had established their own training barn at Doolandella in Brisbane's south west. and were exhibiting as "MGS Equine Investments".
Numerous led successes at Royal, State and National Shows included Champion and Supreme exhibits with Australian Ponies, Saddle Ponies, Riding Ponies, Welsh Ponies, Conemarra Ponies, Shetlands, Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Australian Stock Horses, Palominos and Warm Bloods.

With Saddle Horses, the list of achievements include Champion Hack, Pope Cup and Crane Trophy at the Sydney Royal Easter Show; Champion and Reserve Champion Hacks at Brisbane Royal; two Queensland Horse of the Year titles and three runner-up titles. Greg, with his grey hack "Tides" won the 1995 Horse Magazine's National Saddle Horse Leader Board competition.

At the 1995 Sydney Royal Easter show, MGS established a number of firsts in the R.A.S. record book. Tides is the first hack to go from Novice, through Open to Pope Cup and Champion Hack at the one show. MGS also made history by being the first exhibitor to take out both the Pope and Crane Trophies ("Tides" and "Jetset") at the one show.

Following our retirement from professional saddle horse competition we have committed ourselves to the breeding of quality Show Ponies, Galloways and Hacks with various breed registrations, using the stud prefix Smithfields.
