Smithfields News - August 2005

EFA (Qld) Horse of the Year Show was held on the Toowoomba Showgrounds on the first week-end in August with very cold nights and brisk mornings.  We took Shimmer up for the Hack Championships and two rider classes, Dante for the Show hunter Galloway and the pony stallion, Bradmore Toy Soldier for the riding Pony feature show to be held on the Sunday morning.

Shimmer took Jasmin Hunt to win the EFA Junior Rider of the Year award , and Courtney Midson to  Runner-Up Senior Rider of the Year and Smartest-on-Parade in the Hack Championship on Saturday night where he produced a spectacular work-out.

Smithfields Dante was having to face his first major championship experience.  With much to look at etc we were thrilled with the work that he produced for his rider, Ruth Hannan.  He certainly is showing promise of big things to come in the Show Hunter Galloway classes.

Bradmore Toy Soldier (imp) was at his best Sunday morning taking out Supreme Riding Pony exhibit.  It was a great thrill as Toy was at his best and Amy's mother, from the U.K. was there to see him shown for the first time. Toy is such a great mover, it's such an honour to be able to show him off.

Brisbane Royal 2005 began with the judging of the Riding Ponies.  Bradmore Toy Soldier showed extremely well but, unfortunately, the judge preferred the 14.2hh Gold Cup stallion for Champion with Toy receiving Reserve Champion Stallion. I could not have been happier with Toy.  He did everything that could have been expected of him.

Garden Vale Stylish Image had a superb day Thursday taking out the Supreme Led A.N.S.A. award.  He was so settled considering the conditions and worked so well.

MGS Shimmer was 4th in his Open Hack, won his ANSA hack but gave a hiccup jump in the ANSA championship when the stewards dropped the jump rails.
