BELMONT

BELMONT: Bay gelding14.1hh, breeding and date of birth unknown.

Purchased in 1975 from Vince Corvi at Marburg, Qld, on behalf of a client from the northern tablelands of NSW.    Vince asked a young Peter Weston who had only just started working at the centre to trim him up for us to view.  When he was presented to us Peter had hogged his mane so he was not ready to commence his show career until early 1976 at the Darling Downs show of Allora.  His first major success was Champion Novice Galloway at Brookfield Show in 1976.

His first trip to Sydney was 1978.  He failed to get a call-in in his Novice class but was 2nd in his Open class from an extraordinary large field.  Ridden by Angela Kovacs he then went on to win the Ladies Hack from a fields of over 140 resulting in he being awarded the most successful Saddle Galloway exhibit of the show.

“Monty” not only proved to be an extremely prolific winner as a saddle Galloway but also an excellent rider and turnout mount.  He was eventually sold to Jenny Hayes from northern NSW when it became obvious that Monty and her had developed a very strong affinity.
